Reboot occurs on startup

I have a Windows 2000 server that is rebooting on
startup. It gets past the splash screen and tells me a
service failed to start. Behind that window there is a
window that says thar the server is rebooting. I have
patched OS for DCOM exploit about a month and half ago
and the server has been scanned for the worm but nothing
shows up.

This may be seperate but I had all the boot files like
ntldr, boot.ini, etc. on a floppy that had to be used in
order to boot the server before. The floppy now is not
readable so I had to get a another floppy with the all
the right files to boot up. To make sure I have all the
right file I ask What files should be on the floppy?

David,

It will boot up in safe mode just fine, and really I will
probably fix it when I get a hands on look tomorrow. I
was having to work on the phone with a customer who
doesn't know much about this stuff. So there could be
something I recognise wrong when I get there. I just
don't want to have them down too long.

I believe now that since it will start up in safe mode
there is driver or software issue. I did find the MIME
virus in the bad mail folder of exchange while I scanned
in safe mode but I have not read where that would cause
this. Also some people I have seen on some forums where
they have this reboot issue with SP4.

Anyway thanks,
Curtis

Doubtful that it will make a difference. For the floppy to successfully boot
Windows NT/2000 the disk must contain the "NT" boot sector. Format a
diskette (on an NT machine, not a DOS/Win9x, so the NT boot sector gets
written to the floppy), then copy ntldr, ntdetect.com, and boot.ini to it;
and possibly ntbootdd.sys. Edit the boot.ini to give it a correct ARC path
for the machine you wish to boot.

What happens if you boot safe mode? Is it a blue screen stop error? If so
this may help.
