reboot my computer this occurs

When I reboot my computer this occurs: I lose everything saved unless
they are in the My Documents folder. How, specifically, would I be
able to save PERMANENTLY to any and all folders, not to just one?

PS I have WinXP Pro w/ SP 2.

have you got norton goback installed? or anything
similar.
