Reboot Loop

Hi gang. Yesterday my Win 2K Pro PC was working fine.
This morning I power up to find that it was getting stuck
at the "pre-desktop" screen where it shows my wallpaper
but nothing else. I couldn't Ctrl-Alt-Del so I had to hit
the power button on the PC. When I powered up again it
gave me the following message:
"autochk program not found - skipping AUTOCHECK"
then it reboots and it goes back to the same error message
and reboots, etc., etc.
I tried to run safe mode but it did the same thing.
I tried "Last know good configuration" ... same thing.
I put in the Win 2k Pro Installation Disk and ran a repair
on it. It said that my disk was corrupt and that it
couldn't repair the OS.
Question is: does it sound like I'm going to have to
reformat the drive (or probably get a new one) or has
anyone had the autochk error like I had and you simply
have to put autochk back into the WINNT directory to fix
the endless reboot loop?
I'm thinking the HD failed but I'm just trying to save
myself a days work if I can.

thanks,
Chris

Download and run the disk diagnostic program that your
hard disk manufacturer makes available on his home site.
