Friend was having big problems, among them being EXE and LNK shortcut files
opened something called Advanced Uninstaller.
I searched PC to try and get rid of this program but couldn't find it
anywhere!
Ran the Repair option from XP Pro/SP2 CD. It appeared to go OK except for
one error message, didn't quite catch it except it was "via" something.
I assumed it was something to do with chipset drivers and ignored it
thinking the correct drivers could be installed afterwards.
Now it gets as far as starting Windows, there's a very quick flash of a blue
screen, too fast to read, and the PC goes into a re-boot loop.
PC will not start in Safe Mode, either before or after the "Repair", again
it goes into a reboot loop.
Not sure if it's related or not but this PC has always had the
Standby/Hibernate option greyed out even when it was otherwise working OK .
Am tempted to do a full format and re-install but hopefully would like to
save many photos which are in folders on the Desktop.
I'm not familiar with the Recovery Console but is there anything I can do
from there?
Any advice or suggestions welcome.
