Hi

I need to change the Shutdown button in Windows XP SP2 so that it reboots
instead.

Please help!

I have never heard or seen a way to do that. What you could do is to remove
shutdown from the start menu via Group Policy or registry edit and then
place a shortcut on the desktop that is a shortcut to a batch file that
restarts the computer with the shutdown -r command. --- Steve

Ok.

I was planning on removing the shutdown option and using the shortcut. But
when I execute the batch file it never begins the shutdown. It just writes
the command line on the screen but nothing happens.
If I just open a normal Command prompt and write shutdown -r it works, but
not in a batch file.
What might that be?

I just tried it on my computer and it worked fine and the thirty second
countdown began. I used notepad and entered shutdown -r and saved it as a
..bat file and configured it to be a desktop shortcut. The user account that
is using the shortcut must have the user right to shut down the system. When
using notepad to create a batch file be sure you select save as and select
"all files" as save as type and enter myscript.bat or myscript.com as the
file name. --- Steve

Is the computer XP Pro?? If so verify that the user or group have the user
right to shut down the system in Local Security Policy [secpol.msc] under
local policies/user rights. You might want to change it to everyone. XP Home
does not have Local Security Policy.

Now I can remove the Shutdown button but is it possible to remove shutdown
but allow reboot?

:-)
