Vincent

I tried to install W2K on a computer but the computer
reboot when Windows BEGIN to be loaded after the first
installation phase (file copy).

It's the same thing under safe mode or other options.

I checked / swaped RAM, HD, and Video card.
I tried different IRQ for VGA.

I finished to install W2K on another computer, just in
case, and put the hard drive with the full install on it:
same!

It's the same thing with XP and 2003 server.

I disabled all the "on-board" devices I found in the BIOS:
serial, parallel, and USB: same result.

I search on forums and news an saw I'm not the only one in
this case.

It looks like it's only an hardware problem doesn't it?

Thank you for any clue.

Hi Vincent,
It does sound like a hardware issue. You can also try:
- Update the BIOS / firmware to the latest available revision
- Remove all unnecessary hardware components (anything not needed during the
initial setup of Windows)
- Perform full hardware diagnostics against the system board, processor(s),
etc
- Change out remaining hardware, such as the power supply, system board

I know you said you changed the display adapter, but the symptoms you're
describing would make the display my number one suspect (reboots just after
attempting to enter the GUI, each time). If you swapped the display adapter
with one of the same make and model, you might want to try a completely
different type of display adapter, and check the Windows 2000 Hardware
Compatibility List.
