Reasons why a company would want to upgrade from MS NT to
MS Windows 2000 with AD
.
Mustafa,
I can think of three reasons without really thinking at
all:
1) Group Policy
2) Active Directory
3) Stability
1) If you have applications to deploy that have an .msi
extension ( or can package a wrapper for the .exe
yourself ) then you are saving yourself a whole lot of
time. Your users will really appreciate the excellent
service. And, applications deployed via GPO have a self-
healing feature that is really nice.
2) Active Directory - replication is so much better (
where that changed attribute, rather than the entire
object, is replicated with replication partners );
Organizational Units instead of another domain; Dynamic
DNS; etc. etc. etc.
3) WIN2000 is a much more stable environment vs. WINNT
4. There is really no comparison. Where I used to work
we had about 15 WINNT 4.0 Workstation users. Most of
them had a lot of freezing issues, blue screens, etc. I
took those computers, wiped the HDDs and loaded WIN2000
Pro. Same computer, same applications, 1/10 the problems
( and that would be on the high side! ).
