I keep having an icon reappear on my desktop for no
apparent reason. The icon is white with the windows logo
and is named ~. The type of file is file and size is
183KB. It's tagged as an archive. I've deleted the icon
many times and it keeps randomly reappearing. Please send
me an e-mail if anyone knows the cause/fix. Thanks.

The only time I have come across anything like this is
when I have had spyware dropped onto one of my users PC's.
I have found that using Ad-Aware and SpyBot both on the
same computer gets rid of these type of annoyances. Both
of these software are downloadable from www.download.com
and both are freeware. I also use Popup-cop for pop-ups.
For $19 it was a great purchase.

It's your address book, WAB. Interesting huh? Actually it is a temporary
WAB that should not be there but is due to a recent MIcrosoft Outlook
Express update bug. You can delete it but it will always come back until
Microsoft fixes it.

Now for the really inteteresting part and a way that I may be able to stop
it from appearing on your desktop. Try this. Don't delete it but cut and
copy it to C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MAPI\1033 and plop it in
there. If that works great. If not do this. Right click the file in
Windows Explorer where it exists like C:\Documents and
Settings\%profile%\Desktop right-click choose properties then check hidden |
Apply | OK. That will get it out of your hair(?) until Microsoft fixes the
bug.
