In my computer <Realtek HD audio> is installed. In the manager window of
this hardware if I choose"mixer" the default check is "front mic". But in
this condition I am not able to record anything or chat. I have to check
"MIcvolume" then I am able to record or chat. But this checking is not
steady periodcially the check goes back to front mic. I want this to be
permanently checked against MICvolume. any suggestions. this was not dealt
in FAQ of the manufacturers.

Have you solved your problem yet - had similar I think and may be able to
help

not satisfactorily. But I find if I change the audio system for e.g. from
instnat messenger to sound recorder or vice versa it goes back to the
default <fornt mic> . I have to redoit. But as long as I am using only the
same audio system the checking remains steady. sometimes when I close down
and reboot the checking changes.
still I have not found a good solution to keep <mic> as defautl instead of
<frontmic>. hope somebody will give a solutionl

Hello V
Have you checked for updated drivers as per Gary Ts suggestion?
My prob was that I have a headset and wanted to use the front jack
connections and although I configured the phonos to work, try as I may the
mic would not.
I have tried what you say you have and on 'test' my mic records OK.
In my Realtek Sound Manager, I have no control over the sound settings on
the Record, apart from the main Vol control(CD vol, micVol,Line Vol & Stereo
Mix are ALL greyed out) only the Playback settings can be adjusted. But my
mic records OK on test. But my RSM may be different to yours i.e. what is
your soundcard and MoBo. Mine are Mobo Asus P5LD2, High End 8 channel
onboard sound.
You mention using the mixer, which I have not yet done, so what do you use
it for?
My manual mentions that the mixer activates voice from all channels by
default, so might explain why the seperate controls are greyed out and there
is no need for their use. In any case, my mic vol setting is done through
the Master Vol. etc
Using the front jacks should auto mute the speakers in the Realtek
configuring, but it doesnt!! Dont know why - neither do Realtek,
but that is a minor prob.
If you want to continue, come back with the info and I will go through what
you are trying to achieve, but step by step.
Please note that I failed to add my post-script to my first offer.
This may put you off my help. I wont be offended.
