I downloaded the latest drivers from RealTek and followed the prompts. It
first deletes your current driver then has you restart your computer. But
when I do that vista automatically reinstalls the old driver! How do I get
vista to either not install the old driver or install the new driver?

Go to Device Manager and uninstall the Realtek HD Audio adapter, ****AND check
the box to remove driver files****

Go to Programs and Features and uninstall the Realtek HD Audio Manager (Windows
will reinstall generic HD audio drivers)

Go Device Manager and uninstall the generic HD audio device

REBOOT

Ignore if Windows installs generic drivers again

Install new (ver. 1.72) Realtek drivers

REBOOT

DONE

OR, the simple way, just run the Realtek 1.72 driver installation a second time,
REBOOT, and then check in Device Manager for the driver version and date. Other
users have had this work successfully.
