How do PERMANENTLY I get rid of this "REALSCHEDULER" in MSCONFIG. Apparently
it is unnecessary and a risk!

Thanks,

Marc

No way to remove some setting in the registry and keep Real Player going?

I don't think so. Cari would know if there were. Real Player is notorious
for this kind of behavior. There is another choice. Google for "Real
Alternative" and also "Quick Time Alternative". These players are free and
don't have the invasive characteristics of the name brand software
applications. I haven't used Real Player or QuickTime in years.

Oops! That should be Google. Not Goggle. Who knows what would happen if
you searched something called Goggle!

I also use Real Alternative and Quick Alternative. Before installing, I
uninstalled the others, and went through the registry getting rid of all
their crap.

I was under the impression that the Alternative players can't play
native formats unless the actual players are installed. Those are
proprietary codecs. The idea behind the Alternative players is that you
get a smaller footprint and more control over the interface.

1. Open Regedit
2. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
and look for TinkerBell (or something like that).
3. Delete the entry (I believe the path has realsched.exe in it).

You're good to go!

Microsoft AntiSpyware Beta 1 had the ability to block user specified programs
from being installed. I used it to prevent ReadScheduler from reinstalling
itself when I updated Real Player. I really liked that functionality. But,
Windows Defender Beta 2 replaced MSAS and I don't know for sure if that
functionality was retained. I haven't reinstalled Real Player in a while so
I don't know if RealScheduler is still blocked. Also, Windows Defender is
still beta software. So, if you have an issue with beta software, don't
install it.

TkBellExe - although I like the idea of TinkerBell :-))

Yes, it has

just delete the program. I think realsched or something, msconfig shows
the path.
