Really slow startup of Workstation service after KB828035

I recently installed XP pro on a clean hard drive.
Everything was very fast till I installed KB828035. After
that starting or restarting the machine takes well over a
minute before my desktop is available. I found that if I
disable the Workstation service my startup time is fast
as before. However, I need to run the workstation
service. Any idea?

In theory, If you don't use the messenger service, disable messenger.
At that point you don't really need the fix, so you could uninstall
it. See:
