really slow performance

Lately my PC is so slow in all aplications. Occasionally
a message box pops up saying "virtual memory is low,
windows is increasing your virtual memory size". I
increased the virtual memory to 200Mb, though the Help
file recommends it should be 1.5 times the RAM, which on
my PC is 512Mb. Why would it be so slow now, when I've
not added any new programs for quite a while, except MSN
Messenger upgraded to v6.1.
If anyone can help resolve this much gratitude will go
their way. Thanks.
 
Bump your page file to 750,make sure you click set when
you do this.Also try running AD-Aware or Spybot(free on
web)to rid of spyware.I also would do a virus
scan....Good luck.

Sounds like an overdose of spyware but may be a virus.

Info here might help. Make sure your virus protector is
up to date.
