Really slow burning

Whenever I try to burn a CD it takes half an hour or more
just to "convert" one song, and I've never had the
patience to wait it out for the 7 hours or so it would
take to finish. Any suggestions on how to speed it up?
 
You MAY have some hardware issue to address:
How fast is your computer?
How much internal memory do you have?
How old is your CD burner and what is it's speed?
