Really simple question about desktop icons

For some reason the answer escapes me so I thought I would ask here. On a
Windows XP desktop with a background picture downloaded from the Internet.
The text under the icons still shows the blue background color (blue box with
text in it). How to you get the blue desktop to disappear so that the
picture is visible behind the icon text? In other words so the icon text
"floats" on top of the picture instead of being surrounded by the blue
background?

I know I should know this one but for some reason I don't....

I appreciate your help!

I think this might be what you are after.

Try going into system properties, into advanced, click settings under
performance on the visual effects tab make sure "use drop shadows for icon
labels on the desktop" as a tick tick in the check box.

I knew as soon as I posted I'd find the answer....

System Properties>Advanced Tab>Performance Settings>Use drop shadows for
icon lables on the desktop.

Hopefully you'll find a way to get this to work but AFAIK, removing web
items is on the check list of things to do to get back the transparent icon
labels. In other words, you will very likely lose transparency (and have to
live with that if you prefer to keep the web items) when these are added to
the desktop.

Here is a complete description.

Set your Desktop Background to None. You will see that the Blue Text box has
gone but when you put a wallpaper on the Desktop, it again appear. This is
because of differrent in Icon Background Color and Desktop Background color.

You can still solve this issue through out Display Properties - Apperance -
Advanced.
But you have to try hard.
