we were running a remote site off of a 512 speed connection thru our T1 line
that we used for our telephones. we basically stole a few channels from the
voice T1 for this.

we recently purchased a T1 line that is dedicated for our data connection.
So we can give the stolen channels back to voice.
BUT:
the dumb question is:

what would happen if I left the 512 connection connected to the main switch,
along with the dedicated T1 line?

would I gain anything? would it cause confusion, screw up traffic somehow?

told ya it was a dumb question :)

You don't gain any thing. Cause confusion? Maybe, it depends on the routing table. I would just disable it.

Robert when you are channelizing a T1 routing has nothing to do with it.
This is at the hardware level and transparent at the protocol layer.

My advice is give the channels back to the voice. Not doing so limits the
number of concurrent calls you can have.
