pk heres what happened: my sisters friend took a course
that required her to duel boot windows ME and windows 2000
server on diferent partitions. she has no need for it now,
and the drive is very small, so she bought windows 2000
and wants me to get rid of the 2 partitions and just have
1 on there.

PROBLEM: we have a floppy, but no cdrom drive. but, ive
got an external cd burner that hooks up to the laptop she
has. but, when i run the setup, no cdrom drive is
detected. if i press F6 when it asks to install scsi or
raid drivers, it prompts for the manufacturers disk, but
when i put it in, it cant find the file 'txtsetup.oem'.
the drive is a philips cdrw400 drive. what do i do? any
help will be appreciated. thanks!

Start Windows 2000 Setup using the floppy diskettes (4
diskettes).
Press F6 during startup to specify that you want to
install drivers.
Press 'S' to sepcify and change to the driver diskette.
You will need: A diskette containing Windows 2000
comtapible drivers for the external CD-ROM drive which
typically contains:
TXTSETUP.OEM
DRIVERNAME.SYS
DRIVERNAME.INF
Miscellaneous.SYS files

forgive me if i sound stupid, but how would i make 1 of
those disks? could i make the disk using norton ghost?
thanks for your help! :)

How do ibtain the TXTSETUP.OEM file? i have all the others
but i have no idea how to get that one file! ive seacrhed
for it but no luck. its the only file i need. plz help!

Actually, what is really needed, whilst installing with the 4 Windows 2000
setup diskettes, is the driver file for the external cdrom connection, be it a
SCSI host adapter, parallel port, USB port, or whatever. Normally, these
driver files are provided with the external drive along with instructions for it
to be started with a new (i.e., "clean") system. For an USB external drive,
all that might be needed, for instance, is to make it the first boot device. Or
SCSI host adapters may need their drivers installed to allow access to the
external cdrom drive. Look at the variables allowed by the external burner.

how would i make the drive the 1st boot device? im not
sure if its different to get to the bios with the new dell
computers.

can u tell me how to get into the bios so that i can
change the order that the devices boot from? im not sure
if the newer dell computers are different but ive tried
and cant access it.

It is specific to the model of PC you have. If you post the model number,
someone may be able to help you. Typically, pressing F2 or F12 or the DEL
key at the appropriate time gets you into the BIOS.
