Any suggestions on how to get RealAlternative to automatically
run ra files in K-Meleon would be appreciated.

Use JetAudio as your media player.
http://www.jetaudio.com/download/

Example 1: BBC News
http://news.bbc.co.uk/
Click on a News Bulletins Audio link. K-Meleon will offer you a file called
bulletin.ram. Save this to any temp file, then Open it with JetAudio.

Example 2: Prairie Home Companion
http://prairiehome.publicradio.org/performances/20040410/
Click on Segment 1 link. K-Meleon will offer you a file called
audio_segment.php.smil. Save this to any temp file, then Open it with
JetAudio.

Check to see if you have these four files in your KM plugin folder,
For example the path to the "plugin" folder on a default install would be
as below, if you installed elsewhere, the path would be other.

C:\Program Files\K-Meleon\plugins (noT the kplugin folder)

nprjplug.dll
nppl3260.dll
nprpjplug.dll
nsJSRealPlayerPlugin.xpt

If you do not have them let me know, I can send them via email.
Or you can search for the files via Google, and probably find them, but if
not I can send them.
Also, you can see what plugins you have installed by typing exactly as
below in the url address box in KM, and hit GO.

about:plugins

If you have the RealPlayer Plugins installed you should see this text in
your browser window, as below.
Also check this page out->http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/docs/realaudio.php
and configure as shown.

I'm a K-Meleon and RealOne user (RealAlternative downloaded but not
installed yet), but this is really a K-Meleon question.

You do NOT have to settle for downloading the file first and opening
it up separately. Fixing this requires a little minor file editing in
notepad. Make sure to save a backup copy of the file. The
instructions are at
<http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/docs/realaudio.php>
and a handy test page of .RA and .RAM file links to the BBC is at
<http://www25.brinkster.com/alien2k/realaudio.html>
Have fun!

And Jet plays RealMedia Video?

Thanks Mark

I had already tried that but without success - it just offered to
download the file as before. I'm unsure of the syntax of these
prefs.js commands - the ones suggested have 'realaudio' in them
does this need to be changed do you think?

TIA

I hadn't seen these before, but having added them to my K-Meleon Prefs.js
file they work fine with JetAudio, and obviate the need to save before you
play.

You don't need to worry about syntax unless you're trying to add other
file types besides RealAudio. Hopefully, you should just need to
cut-and-paste the three lines as-is from the web page to the very
bottom of prefs.js. Make sure you're not using the default K-Meleon
profile. Check Edit | Manage Profiles, and create a new profile if
necessary, then edit the prefs.js file in the section for *that*
profile in your k-meleon folder.

If it still doesn't work with the particular website you want, try
replacing your mimetypes.rdf file with the one offered at
<http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/forum/read.php?f=1&i=15080&t=15079>
