I have installed "Defender" and selected the "Realtime" protection. So,....my
question is this: How can Defender be protecting my computer in "Realtime",
if it is not showing up as an active running process in Task Manager?

Does it show up in MSCONFIG?

Hi,......Yes, it shows up in MSCONFIG, as: MSASCui,....so why doesn't it
show up in task manager, as a live process?

Do you see the windows defender service running?
in Task Manager, this is msmpeng.exe

msmpeng.exe = windows defender service = real time protection.

Yep,......it's there,......(DUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, now I feel stupid)
That's what I get, for trying to perform thinking tasks ...with a hangover.
Thanks for the info....

Not a problem--the new version is new for all of us--there are three parts
involved, and the RTP is a system service, so it is harder to spot.

What threw me, was that I was looking in: "APPLICATIONS" in Task Manager,
and Defender was only showing up when it was opened,......and would disappear
from "Applications" when Defender was closed,....thus giving the impression
that it was not actively runnung, in the background.
