Hey
Whenever I load the Antispyware program, the real time protection is
disabled. I then click enable and it still says that the real time protection
is disabled when i right-click on the logo. Is this just my computer or is
this version not working?

Hi Glenn,
Engle says...

Try these two solutions:

1) do an update install--control panel, add or remove
programs, Microsoft Antispyware, change, update.

Then, try these steps:

1) Open up a command prompt (start -> run -> type in -> cmd)
2) Type in the following "regsvr32 msvbvm60.dll" (without the quotes).
3) Close and re-open Windows AntiSpyware

You can go ahead and do both of these--neither has any
downside risk--and see if that does the job. Let us know
whether it does, or not!

Sometimes, you have to try 2 or 3 times with MSAS, in
order to stick the selection

Thanks Dave

Well your advice kind of worked- it says that the real time agents are
active when I have the actual program open. However, it still says that real
time protection is disabled when I right click on the taskbar logo. Does this
mean that its working or not?

That's kind of Betabizarre. First make sure Options > Settings > Real-time
Protection, Both Startup options and the Real-Time spyware threat protection are
checked. Now reboot. MSAS should start and display the taskbar/systray icon.

You can shut RTP off or on with a right click on that systray icon, then a drop
down menu. What happens if you make RTP enabled there, then double click the
icon to open the Main MSAS window, notice if RTP is now active, then click
Real-time Protection. That next screen should light up like a red Christmas tree
if any of the 3 agents really aren't active. Make sure all 59 checkpoints are
active too, it doesn't seem to hurt on a big enough machine anyway (I don't have
WiFi but it's active) you can play with these later. Let us know how you make
out.

Thats the problem- whenever i right click on the systray icon it shows RTP as
disabled and yet when i open the MSAS window it shows RTP as enabled. I have
done the settings before hand when i first installed MSAS yet it still shows
like this. All 59 checkpoints are active as well, so maybe ts just my
computer even though it is new.

Thanks anyway Dave

Want to test?

Drop to a command prompt in \windows (or \winnt, depending on which version
you've got)

Enter "md winlogon.exe" and hit enter

Wait about 15 seconds or so, and look for a red popup. When the popup
occurs, enter

"rd winlogon.exe" and hit enter

I recommend choosing Allow on the popup and not checkint the always ignore.

Neither choice involves any risk to your machine--but don't choose always
ignore--there is a real threat by this name, although creating that
directory has little to do with the real threat.

This will give you clear evidence about whether real-time protection is, in
fact, active.

Well I've finally got it to work now after doing some work in safe mode RTP
just started to work properly. Thanks for the advince, tips and help they
were extremely helpful.

Terrific--there are several bugs relating to whether the icon shows, or does
not show, or does show when you have asked that it not! Glad that you're in
good shape now.

I had a similar problem (described in next paragraph), and I followed both of
Dave M's solutions in the order suggested. The second solution worked for me
immediately.

In my case, on the real-time protection screen all thee agents were
"inactive", with the Internet Agent listing 1 checkpoint, the System Agent
listing 0 checkpoints, and the Application Agent listing 0 Agents. Neither
the System nor the Application Agent could be activated. The Internet agent
appeared to activate on the real-time protection screen, but when I went one
level deeper into the Internet Agent Screen, it displayed Inactive in the
status portion of the screen (could not activate on that screen-nothing
happened clicking the activate link). On the same screen, it listed only the
Dialup Connection under checkpoint details in the middle of the screen, and
it displayed nothing on the right under Checkpoint Details except the four
buttons at the bottom (all of which were non-fuctional).

In any case, the "regsvr32 msvbvm60.dll" command seems to have fixed
everything.

Thanks.

Kevin
