Real player won't play anything

Oren Almog

It seems that it does not recognize my sound card. Every time i am
trying to play something: be it an mp3 or video file or CD i get a
"General Error". I already tried reinastalling the sound card drivers
but it did'nt work.
Any help ?

This is *not* a Windows issue, nor is it a HARDWARE issue, so this isn't the
correct place to be posting. Real Player isn't even an MS application.
Suggest you contact Real Media's tech support (if such exists).

the last guy was right about this not being a microsoft
issue, but i am not as grumpy and will try to help you
out. you can go to real.com and go to technical support
and go to thier blackjack page, there they have links to
alot of different player versions for download so if the
one you currently have isn't working, and if you
rightfully own it, then you can download a different
realplayer like real one or something so it can recognize
your hardware with different drivers.

Well, since real player did work perfectly well in the past and since
the problem is about it not recognizing my sound card (which is some
form of hardware if i am not mistaken) and since i am quite sure that
if i will reinstall win xp (something which i am trying to avoid)
everything will work fine, than i do believe this seems to be some
problem with win xp and there for is supposed to be considered ON
TOPIC in this group.

Alex, I downloaded a couple of earlier realplayer versions at that
site. As soon as I tried playing an .avi file, a message appeared that
a plug was required from real.com and to click to receive it. The
connection to real.com then produced another message saying that the
plug was no longer available but that I should really download the
current realplayer.

I'd suggest another player, like MediaPlayer Classic (approx. 700K).
