real basic question on video capture

I've now found movie maker that i am trying to use with a sony dcr-pc9e.

I have seen a bit of chat about IEEE 1394 cards, it appears my pc does not
have one (dell dimension intel 2.52ghz built 2002 etc..) - the sony camcorder
came with a USB lead, but simply plugging it in to the PC does not present me
with any of the options to capture video i was expecting.

questions-
1) am i correct in thinking that the USB lead is an alternate to the IEEE
route ?
2) what other video capture devices are likely to be on my pc ?
3) how can i get Movie Maker to show up in my programs list ???

any / all thoughts much appreciated

the USB connection is not an alternate route to capture full digital
video... the camcorders come with the USB cable but not the firewire/iLink
one.

You should be able to add a firewire card to your computer and get the
cable.... that's your best option for capturing.
