Yes, I have...found one on sale, cheap, Hi-Speed 100 pq1 (sic) 4GB
CompactFlash...works great.

DevilsPGD,

I tried loading ReadyBoost on a PQI 2.0 gig, Vista's response, that media is
not recognized by Vista, and refused loading ReadyBoost, although, the PQI
2.0 would permit file / folder storage. Have used Lexar and Emprex without
difficulties.

Later learned from Vista's Help Files that USBs contain three versions of
Flash Media. 1) Fast Flash, 2) Slow Flash, 3) Fast and Slow Flash combined.
Without researching, near certain that Vista prefers Fast Flash.

Must admit that I'm not familiar with the PQI Module SSD.

If you're considering spending that kind of money on a ReadyBoost device ...
don't. Get more memory instead. ReadyBoost is not a universal cure-all for
lack of memory. The same money spent on memory will get you a real
performance boost.

I have 2GIG of RAM, very fast RAID 0 SATA disks.

Adding a USB ReadyBoost drive made my app compile in 30secs, it was over
1min before.

I cannot add more RAM, but I can add a USB key.

You do notice a DIF.

Its not about lack of memory, its about speeding up random access to your
filesystem.

Steve

Has anyone tried a PQI USB Disk On Module SSD with ReadyBoost?

It's expensive, but it looks like the over-all fastest choice -- I'm
just curious how much of a difference it will make, $179 isn't exactly
cheap.

I'm happy to keep throwing RAM at the system, but at least under XP, 1GB
to 2GB made *zero* performance difference except when I'm running
virtual machines, Photoshop, or some other RAM hog.

I'm looking for ways to get a bit of extra performance out of the
drives, as the vast majority of time when I wait for anything at all,
it's due to drives.

Yup -- And in fact, in case #3, Vista will only use the fast flash
portion.

It's reportedly entirely fast flash, which explains the cost. I'm
debating trying it, although I'm not really sure what I'll do with it if
it doesn't work out.
