D'OH! Sorry if there is a duplicate post, my spell checker changed
ReadyBoost to SpeedBoost (I have no idea why, <fx> rummages in user
dictionary ..)

I've just bought a bunch of 4GB flash drives for Vista to use for ReadyBoost
on my PCs. A few problems and questions:

[1] On one PC, Vista said the drive didn't have the performance
characteristics required, but the same drive worked fine in another PC. It
was plugged into a USB2 port in both cases.

[2] Is it best to choose the default size? 3.91GB in this case

[3] Should I format them as NTFS, or FAT32?

[4] Is it best not to assign a drive letter and path?

Any other thoughts?

Flash drives which have the performance required for Ready Boost now
normally says so on the package and I even had one of them that did not pass
the test the first time.
Best to format with FAT32 since the drive is 4GB.
On some desktops the rear USB ports are potentially faster since they
connect direct to the MOBO and there is no cable like there is for the front
ports.
You can retry the performance test on the system which you are having a
problem with and if you get it to pass don't let it try again each time you
boot. Best to run the performance when their is no other activity on the
system.
