Readyboost cache delete on reboot?

I currently have an A-Data 2GB 150X SD Card I use on my Inspiron 6400
primarily for Readyboost and it works just fine until.....on shutdown/reboot
windows deletes the cache data.

Just before rebooting I get Event 1013, Readyboost: A readyboost cache was
successfully deleted on the device (Unknown Unknown) of course looking up
the error was completely useless:

Results for: Microsoft product: Windows Operating System; Version:
6.0.6000.16386; ID: 1013; Event Source: Microsoft-Windows-ReadyBoost; No
results were found for your query. Please see Search Help for suggestions.

When logging back in almost immediately it recreates the cache again from
scratch that being said is there any way to prevent this from happening or
is it another one of those bugs that will be addressed in SP1 :P

What type of memory stick reader are you using? MS claims Readyboost does
not support external card readers. But that's not the "full" story. It's
all about speed. Generally, internal readers are going to be faster. My
guess is the IDE ones. I haven't pin pointed that yet. Anyway, regardless
of your 150X card, that doesn't mean squat if your reader isn't back it up.
That's the theory anyway. The reality is that even fast external card
readers don't work well if at all and a lot of internal ones aren't working
either.

Your best bet is to go with a USB key/drive.

I have an internal USB 2.0 one and my Verbatim 1GB works fine. Though I have
to turn off boot from USB devices in bios otherwise the computer tries to
boot from it and errors out. I have a 12GB Verbatim however that Windows
says isn't fast enough. So I think the internal USB 2.0 readers will be
fine, it comes down to your thumb drive. I have also noticed that sometimes
the one that works doesn't, but when I retest it does. This setup
(Readyboost) doesn't seem to be very stable. I just stopped using it.

I think that's why MS decided to stick with NO external and good luck with
internal.

I haven't heard any complaints from USB stick users.
 
Unfortunately I cannot go with a USB pen drive as I use a laptop so having
one of those jutting out of the side and or back isn't very practical, and
my card reader is internal which is why I picked up the 150X SD card in the
first place, windows already knows the card is more than fast enough to run
readyboost.

I guess it's aanother Vista bug and I'll have to wait till the SP1 program
starts to fix it :<
 
Vista went RTM before enough bugs like this were discovered and or solved,
at least I shouldn't have to wait too long heheh.

Updates will be released over time. No need to wait for SP1. However, I
don't think your issue is something that's going to get fixed. Have you
read anything else on it elsewhere?

It's a speed issue as far as I can tell.

What model laptop?
 
It isn't a speed issue and the event id's aren't even covered anywheres,
Inspiron 6400.

Vista telling me it deleted the speedcache for absolutely no reason other
than it is deleting it, isn't very helpful, as when windows reboots it just
goes through the whole cycle of creating a cache without any intervention
from me.

Hum...I still point my finger at your card reader. When you do not have a
stick in the reader, does the reader still show as a drive letter in "My
Computer"? Or does the drive letter only pop up when you have a stick of
memory in the reader?
 
Nope as soon as I pull the SD card out the drive letter dissappears :>

I blame vista going to RTM before I could test any SD cards out :) I don't
exactly remember a ton of people actually testing readyboost out during the
beta and windows just saying it's deleting the cache file right before it
reboots is kind of pointless. It's not saying why it's deleting it or giving
any error codes and if it was some sort of fault of the system it should be
at least telling me why instead of pointing me to the MSKB which tells me
absolutely nothing....Then again thinking about it, USB was tested a lot
more than SD was as it was added later on during the beta.
