I have a new installation of XP Pro. When trying to read posts in this
group, the messages have to be opened individually. My mail program on OE is
set for no messages to open automatically. Is there a fix for newsgroups?

This is what I see when I click a header in a newsgroup?
Don't know what you mean as OE has never opened messages automatically.
Perhaps you are referring to Message Previewing. If so View menu - Layout -
Preview Pane.

Ah, good. It was going to be messy to hide the preview pane for mail and not news. But what you see is fixed by Tools - Options - Read - Automatically Download Messages When Viewing In The Preview Pane.

If you set you security zone to Restricted in Tools - Options - Security then nothing much nasty can happen to you without your permission.

The only way to have preiew pane off is to turn it off before reading mail messages.

You could experiment with the first three of OE's command line switches. But saved settings seem to be common to all.
msimn /newsonly (News Only OE)
msimn /outnews (News Only OE that pretends it Outlook from Office)
msimn /mailonly (Mail Only OE - but recognises already setup newsgroups)

msimn /newsurl:
msimn /defclient (use /outnews /defclient to make OE claiming to be Outlook the newsreader)
msimn /mailurl:[email protected]
/reg & /unreg as well.

I think I'll just learn to deal with it. Thanks so much.
