I have a CD which autoboots into a webbrowser to view the documents, and then
the user clicks on a link to open the one then want.

Dare I say it the CD works spot on with Mozilla Firefox, no problems opening
the PDF's at all.

However it will not work with Internet Explorer if you click on the link it
just sits there and does nothing. I need it to work in IE (it is IE6 I am
using with all the security updates)

I have checked that the security setting in IE allows active content to be
opened from CD-Rom.

Please someone help.

Hi Garfield :-)

You don't mention the version of Windows you are using, but, I will take a
guess at Win2000. Try the following and see if it will help:

First, IE browser software defaults Acrobat Reader to "OFF" to display PDF
files. You can restore the setting to"ON" by finding an Acrobat document
and then opening it.

Then click Edit> Preferences> Internet> check the box next to "Display PDF
in browser"

also...

Try updating/reinstalling the latest Acrobat Reader:

Explorer-View-Folder Options-File Types

The path to Folder Options may vary according to your operating
system. It may be:
Explorer-View-Folder Options
Explorer-Tools-Folder Options
Start-Settings-Folder Options
Start-Settings-Control Panel-Folder options.

If still no joy, try the information here:

Hope this helps :-)

Thanks for the reply, It didn't partiularly matter on the OS, it is just an
issue with IE6. However as it happens it was either win2000 or winxp.

I have however found the problem now,

Internet Explorer 6 with the security updates stop any pdf files from
running locally. Apparently IE classes PDF's as active-x content and all
active-x content is banned from being run locally. You'd think you would have
a choice on whether you thought the cd you had put in your personal machine
was a security threat or not.

The only solutions other people seem to have found is to ditch IE completely
and use an alternative browser.

Myself I am going to ditch browsing the cd in internet explorer and go for a
all-pdf navigation system, it will create less hassle in the long run.
