Testing....Office 2003, Outlook 2003 on Exchange 2000 with Win 2000 desktop
I have been using Outlook for years and appreciate the new reading pane, but prefer not to use it...very little privacy at my desk, so not practical. Anyway, I have gone through each of my sub-folders under the Inbox and turned off the reading pane, but whenever I create a new sub-folder, it defaults to the reading pane view to ON and I have to turn it off. Is there a way to change the default so that it doesn't set the reading pane view to ON, whenever a new folder is created

Also, we are in the process of rolling Office 2003 out to 12k desktops and I'm sure we will get this request in the future. Is there a way to change a registry setting, set a policy or maybe an installation setting to default the reading pane to OFF
Thanks for your help in advance

You can offer them a modified shortcut for this. Append /nopriew to it and
Outlook will be started with the preview pane off.
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\OUTLOOK.EXE" /nopreview

What do you mean? Word isn't a mailclient so how could you remove the
Reading Pane then?

I'll post this question in the Word 2003 newsgroup. Our
end users don't like the reading pane default in Word.

Do you mean Reading Layout?

In Word;
Tools-> Options-> tab General-> uncheck Allow starting in Reading Layout
