We have recently installed XP on two new computers.

Cannot read from floppy discs that we can read and write
to on our other computers (Win 2000 and Win 98).

When we try we Get message that the disk is unformatted,
would we like to format?

When we try to format, formatting cannot be completed.

Please advise

Regards.

This would not seem to be an XP problem. And besides, 98 and 2000 are
compatible with XP.
Your floppy drive wants to write, not read. I hope you did not let it format
a floppy with files on it. "Format" is similar to "erase," at least as far
as you are concerned.
Did the computer offer to format as a result of inserting the disk? Did you
perhaps give it backwards instructions?
