reading an xp professional program on a 98

There are tech support people that are telling me that you
cannot read an xp professional program on a 98, even if you
map the drive. However, you can read a 98 program on a
mapped xp. Is that true?

That depends on what you mean by "read" a program.

All versions of Windows can read files that are stored on other
versions of Windows.

If a program is written specifically to run on XP, it probably won't
run on 98. However, a program written specifically to run on 98 can
run on XP using XP's compatibility mode, where it acts as if it's 98.
