Read/write parallel port using MS Visual Stadio.NET

I've desperately looking for a way of controlling the parallel IO port (read
or write 25pin Dsub connector) on my win2k desktop pc using Microsoft Visual
Stadio.NET2003. Could someone point me a resource/hint to do that?(both C++
and Basic).
Moreover, serial port control is also another headache for me....
I wanted to make those to control a homebrew robot....
