Read the contents of open excel worksheet

hello,

how would it be possible to read the contents of an open
excel worksheet in a C program. The worksheet consists of
several rows of numeric data and a text field in each row.
It has 500 rows with 8 columns each. There are ways how to
open a worksheet in a C program but how read the actual
contents if it is open and get the values into separate
variables in the C program ?
Who could help me.

You can either use COM and get the Excel instance from the ROT, or write an
add-in and pass the data to a worksheet function implemented by your code.
