Read PDF other than with Adobe Reader?

As per subject... are there any other freeware apps that can read
PDF files other than Adobe Reader (which takes FOREVER to open!).

Maybe PDF Reader (I haven't checked)

If you are talking about Adobe 6 - you can remove most of the plugins from the
plugin directory (there is already a directory named "optional" where you can
move them to). It will then load much faster.

I don't want to create PDFs, I want to read pre-written ones.
Will CutePDF do that? (It's a 4 MB+ download, I'm on 56k).
 
Question was not answered in this post. But, yes there
is the freeware GhostScript which does a fine job. Yet,
there are ways to make your Acrobat respond more
quickly by doing away with all those useless plug-ins.
And .. you can always search around for an earlier version that didn't do
all that stuff in the first place.

You should be able to read a PDF as long as you have the plug-in. Open your
MSIE then do a File->Open and go browsing for a PDF file and select that.
If you already have the plug-in IE should load the file for you. If you
don't, IE will probably prompt you to go online and download the plug-in.

Once you have the plug-in you should be able to load PDF's into IE
regardless of whether or not you're online...just like loading a doc into
Notepad or Wordpad.

To increase the speed and reduce the bloat of AR6, make sure the splash
screen is disabled (edit>preferences>starup) and do the what is outlined
here
http://tinyurl.com/z3fh. Doing this makes AR6 workable for me.
 
THANK YOU! I'm going to check this out. Never heard of it.

Acrobat reader is a DOG, especially in IE on my 2.2GHz laptop. I
loathe PDF files because of it.

Another option is top uninstall Acrobat Reader 6 and install one of the
earlier versions like Acrobat Reader 4 or 5 (see
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/alternate.html or www.oldversion.com

Or Install Adobe eBookReader. I found eBookReader much easier to use than
Acrobat Reader when viewing PDF files.
