I have Access set up on a server here at work. For a long
time i didn't have any problems, but out of the blue i had
people calling me with problems. See, the database is set
as read only and when someone opens it at any given time
it comes up with full access. So all in all it is
switching itself on and off of read only at random. Could
anyone lend me some insight? Cause i am stumpped.

Then something changed.

How did you set it as read only?

If you subsequently compacted it (which you likely do on a regular basis),
the database (since it actually is a new file), will inherit it's properties
from the folder. That might be how the read-only is changing.

Also, for multiuser setup, all users need full permission to the folder
where the mdb is so that the associated ldb can be created.

If you want to limit users, you should implement Access user level security.
