Hi there,

I have connected a home network (2 computers). I am
running Office 2003 and Windows XP home.

My issue is that when I try to open a word document filed
on the other network computer it opens as read only. I
have tried to change the properties of the drive, the
directory and the target file to allow me to change the
document, but it always opens read only.

The problem is compunded because when I open files the
other way(ie from the other computer to my drive) I have
no problem.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Tony Casey

From PC1 to PC2 you need to change folder or file properties - Is this correct?

Go to PC2 and check your File Sharing properties, Right Click on the drive
and select Properties> Sharing.

Hi Tony,

You might want to check to see what permissions you have
for accessing that file or folder. If you were given read
only, then you can`t modify the file in the folder. It is
one possible cause of the problem. As for accessing it
via a browser, your basically saving it in the internet
temp files, which allows you to edit it(I beleive).
