Hi there. I'm running a Windows 2000 Advanced Server with WinXP clients
connecting to it. I have a shared folder on the server with permission's set
to the folder. "with full control" When I check the properties of the folder
from the server, the folder is "not read only". but when I check the
properties of the folder from the client pc, the folder is "ready only". why
is this? Because this is preventing my application from being run... I have
also tried setting the permission for Full Control for Everyone...

Thanx Jared.

Jared,

When accessing shared resources remotely, there are two levels of
permissions to be concerned about. That may be the problem in your
situation. There is the local file/folder level permissions which is what
you would normally see when accessing the folder locally on the server.
Then there are the network or share level permissions.

So when you are bring up the properties of a folder on the local server, are
you looking at the Sharing tab or the Security tab. The Security tab will
display the access permissions/rights for someone who is logged on directly
to (physically at) the console of the server. That may be where you are
seeing that everyone has the full control rights.

For the remote WinXP clients, the permissions on the Sharing tab can further
restrict access above and beyond the limits imposed at the file level. If
you look on the Sharing tab and click on the Permissions button (I am
recalling this from memory), you should be able to see and set the
share-level permissions. If the share-level permissions are set to full
control as well as the file-level permissions are set, then it should work.
Hope this helps. Thanks.
