The read only attribute on folders has no real meaning in XP - the
folders are always open for reading. If you are having problems, look
elsewhere.

hmm when i try to resume a download i get access denied it is a ntfs drive
how do i change the folder/file permissions?

Right click on the folder, choose properties, then the security tab.

They won't have that tab in a WinXP Home system unless they logon in safe
mode as administrator.

Yes. The OP didn't specify if home or Pro, or if Pro whether use simple
file sharing was enabled. I figured they'd come back if the tab wasn't
there.

is there any way i can fix this so i can resume downloads in the folder?

You need to quote the message you're replying to. Fortunately I could
still see the thread so I understand your question, but next time quote
at least part of the message.

Follow the steps I suggested about accessing the security tab but first
boot into safe mode. The security tab only shows up for XP Home in safe
mode.
