When I try to save my Windows document to my CD-RW, I get
an error that it's a read-only and I cannot change the
property. I understand that CD-R is read-only but it
won't let me save my document back onto the CD-RW. XP
instructs me to save the document with a different name
but it won't let me do that either, giving me errors that
the folder too is read-only or that windows doesn't
recognize the format of my CD-RW.

How am I suppose save/backup my thesis if XP won't even
let me save my doc to a CD-RW, either with the original
file name or with a different name?

If you are trying to save directly to CD or drag and drop to the CD this
function is not supported natively in XP. It requires third party software
such as the Direct CD or Drag to Disk component of Easy CD Creator,
www.roxio.com or the InCD component of Nero, www.nero.com.

If the above represents what you were trying to do, then you need to install
either the above referenced software or other software that supports that
function. Please visit the application websites for version compatibility
with XP as well as drives compatible with the software.
