We are currently upgrading our version of MS Outlook and Office and after
some upgrades, some people are not able to open MS Access applications that
they were able to previous to the upgrade.

They are only able to open the database as read only and are not able to
enter and/or edit information within the database.

How can this be fixed?

Did the databases have Access Security applied? If so, they need to use the
same Workgroup (*.mdw) file they were using before the upgrade. This can be
specified on the command line using a shortcut to the database, but if it
was done this way the upgrade should be transparent. So, I suspect that the
Workgroup Administrator had been used to join them to the workgroup as their
default. To do this, go to Tools|Security|Workgroup Administrator, click
Join and browse for the appropriate *.mdw file.

I have not used any of MS ACCESS securities. When database users upgraded
to the newer version of MS OFFICE could there have been a default security
setting applied for MS ACCESS. The annoying or frustrating thing is that
this read only issue has not effected everybody that has completed the MS
OFFICE / XP upgrade.

Thanks for your help

What else was done then? Just upgrading to Office XP should not have done
this. Did you apply all of the patches for Office XP and Jet? What version
are you upgrading from? Where are the files located that they are trying to
open?
