Read Only Font Problem

I just upgraded to Office 2003. Now when I try to import an
older Power Point file, I get the following message:

This Presentation can not be edited because it contains a
read only font.

The file will import but I can not do anything to it. If I
create a blank PowerPoint file and try to "insert from a
file", PowerPoint 2003 will not as it still sees the "read
only" fonts.

Any ideas???

Hello Sky,

This occurs if a presentation contains an embedded font that is licensed
for Print & Preview only. Due to stricter adherence to font licensing
restrictions in PowerPoint 2003 presentations with this kind of embedded
font cannot be edited in PowerPoint 2003 (even though they could be edited
in previous versions of PowerPoint.

Here's a link to a KB article that describes the resolution (which involves
opening the presentation in an earlier version of PowerPoint and removing
the Print & Preview only embedded fonts and replacing them with fonts whose
embedding license allows for editing.

This is a new change made in PowerPoint 2003, driven by the Microsoft legal
hawks. If a presentation contains embedded fonts that are licensed for
viewing only, you won't be able to edit the file, even to remove the fonts!
If you know what the embedded font is, you may be able to acquire it and
install it. Then you would be able to open the file and edit it. Another
option would be to open the file in PowerPoint 2002 or earlier and do a
Format > Replace Fonts and replace the font with Arial or some other font,
save the file, and you should be able to open it in PowerPoint 2003.

Great!!
That was the answer.....better than I got from Microsoft
Support!!!

Thanks again.
