You didn't give much of a description, but it might be that you're trying to
open a folder JUNCTION instead of a folder. Also, are you running as an
administrator?

Exactly where is the folder? (I don't have Quake4, so I'm not familiar with
where it keeps things.)

The problem I had with the access denied was the JUNCTION thing. I wasn't
even aware of what a junction was until my LFWPT showed me. If you have yer
LFWPT turned on, they can be a great help with some of the newer file
security descriptions.

Hi Jared,

It's not what you think it is. It's a permissions issue, not a "read only"
issue. That attribute is ignored by the system on the folder level, even
though it appears to be there in the folder properties. Your account has
insufficient privileges to either access that folder or to change/alter data
within it. Which one depends on how the program was written and what the
requirements are. If you alter the permissions so that your account has full
access, you will probably find that it will work.

Jared--

Rick's advice will get you access. Use this as a guide to get it done--the steps apply to the Vista security tab and gaining permission. I know it's confusing. You are "admin" yet as Rick says, UAC doesn't give you the attributes you need. It'll get better as to implementation from the UAC team, but better won't be near good enough by RTM.

What a lot of us fear will happen and this has been blogged plenty in comments: People will turn UAC off in droves and they will begin to click OK for whatever box gets into their face with that little UAC logo no matter what it says defeating the whole purpose of UAC's implementation.

The path is d:\program files\id software\quake4\q4base\

What is LFWPT and JUNCTION? do you have weblinks on these things? I
can't find any info.

Every single folder I have on vista drive is read only and I can not
change.

Sorry Jared... The JUNCTIONS are pointers. It doesn't sound like that's the
issue, as it's a folder that shouldn't be a junction.

LFWPT is a joke. It means "Linux-Freakoid Wifey-Poo-Thingie"
