While working with my picture editor, I went to save a
picture and a warning popped up stating that the folder I
was trying to save the file to, was a read only folder.
I know that in XP, only files can be read only. After
checking the properties for several files I found them to
be unchecked for read only, so that is not my problem.
Why can I no longer save pictures, and why is the system
telling me that the folders are read only?

Open Windows Explorer>Tools>Folder Options>View - Check: Show hidden
files and folders.

I don't think that has anything to do with mm being
unable to save files due to folders reading as "read
only". These are not hidden files.

Thanks anyway

[[Unlike the Read-only attribute for a file, the Read-only attribute for a
folder is typically ignored by Windows, Windows components and accessories,
and other programs.]]

What program is your picture editor???
