I have saved a lot of information on disks etc from a
marketing group I belong to. I now want to go back and
retreive some of this info & flyers, change info to my
business and save. It seems all of these files are now
marked "read-only" and I can't do anything with them. I
haven't done anything that would make these read-only
files except switch to windows 2000 this year. What is
happening and how can I fix it? I have gone through
books, help etc looking at setting permissions, but
nothing has worked.

What do you mean by read only - ntfs permissions, or file attributes? If you mean
ntfs permissions then assuming you are an administrator, you can "take ownership" and
change the file permissions from there. If you do this at the folder level for a lot
of files you will want to check the box that will change the ownership of all child
folders and files also at the same time. --- Steve

W2K.
