Read-only file won't allow data entry

I tried to change data and enter new data in an MS Acess
database but when I tried to do so, the program wouldn't
allow it and displayed a message that the database
was "read-only." How do I go about changing this to allow
me to enter and update data?

If the data is read-only, make a copy of it in a directory for which you
have full permissions. If the Access MDB is read-only (you can't modify
anything) either copy the MDB to a directory for which you have full
permissions or else contact the LAN administrator and have your permissions
upgraded to read-write.

Gene,

Could it be the file was copied from a CD-ROM to your hard drive sometime?

Right-click the file and select properties, depending on what version of
Windows you're using there will be a read-only check box somewhere. If the
file has been copied from a CD this will be checked, un-check it!
