I just installed SP2 and now some of our word files for
one user account are set as "read-only." I try to change
it in "properties," but it resets to "read-only."

Steve I can't help you, only commiserate with you. My story is the same as
yours, except after install, my picture files are Read-only and they switch
back right after changing them in Properties too....

One thing I noticed is that after I had moved all my Pictures and sub
folders to a new Pictures folder on my C: drive, and installed ONLY XP (not
Sp2...Yet) that the Pictures folder icon remained "manila" where as the
sub-folder icons turned into a "steel briefcase".....those are the ones I
cannot copy to CD.
The manila folder does copy tho'. I have double checked my security
settings, went to "Safe mode-command-prompt" and used attrib -r *.* and it
simply acted as though it couldn't change that attribute.

It also stated during copy that "Indexer" wouldn't allow it to transfer
until turned off, so using task manager I set the services to
"disabled"....still no go...even disabled Media Manager since the Indexer is
a part of it....or so says Win XP.

And all this because I want to protect my Pictures, MP3's, Documents, etc
before reformatting my HD due to the fact that Kazaa 2.6.6 won't load after
purchasing it....thanks to that evil hackware called "Kazaa-lite"....Kazaa
detects something still left on my computer even after 2 - 3 years.....and
Kazaa is just a robotic techo-mailer when you need technical assistance.

I wonder if that's the case here...I have a detailed list of KB articles
from John Inzer (XP Photo Problems), but I kinda doubt any of those articles
relate directly to "READ-ONLY folders/files cannot be changed to Read/Write
files"
