Hi, I'm wondering if and how it's possible to set up my Outlok Express
account (on PC) and Mail account (laptop) so that both will download all my
mail. I want to be able to read my mail on my laptop but also download the
very same emails to my pc so I can file it there. I'd be grateful if anyone
can help. Thank you. Greg

There's no safe way to synchronize message stores in outlook Express between
two machines so the best compromise is to keep a copy of all messages on the
server for a few days so both machines can get access to it.

On the main outlook express window go tools, accounts, click the account
name twice, and locate the advanced properties.

Simply check the box marked leave a copy of messages on server, choose a
reasonable period of time, and also check the box to delete messages when
deleted from outlook express.

Make this change to both machines.

Unfortunately this does not help with sent messages. The procedure with
windows live mail desktop is roughly the same.

Hey Charlie, thank you very much for your time. I hadn't even considered my
sent emails. Hmmm, maybe I should access my Outlook Express from the laptop
via remote and just conitnue using it instead of Vista Mail.
Again thanks

In order to do so, you will need to configure both mail programs
to leave mail on the server:
Tools, Accounts, select the account, Properties, Advanced,
see Delivery section near the bottom. Also select one of the two
"Remove..." options so that mail doesn't continue to accumulate
in excess of the allotted server space.

My OEX program lets you point to folders on other machines and import them
into the message store of the machine to which you are importing them. It
works in OE6 and in Vista.

I use it myself to synchronize my sent items across the various computers I
have.

When once you download the email to read it you remove it from the mail
server. That is what "download" means.

You can configure your email account to leave the mail on the server through
Tools | Accounts | Your Email Account

Actually download means to obtain the message from the server. Not to
remove it from the server. I have my accounts set to leave the messages on
the server, but the messages are still downloaded.

Ah! But in obtaining / downloading the message, the message is removed from
the server by default - unless we change a setting in our email client.

That is the way the ISP's want it. Many of the smaller ones are limited for
space and they pass this limitation on to the end user. If they (the ISP's)
left the messages, along with the large attachments, on the server by
default, the end user would soon stuff "his" allocated space to the max.
Further new messages would not be on the server and would be lost.

It is only recently that some services give you gigs of mail space. And I
know of no small, local ISP's that do.

Hi just passing through
When I read my email on my laptop and I want the message on my PC I copy and
paste it and email it back to myself and don't open it until I've got it on
my PC for storing.
