Norton AV 2007 has its own Security Center which you enabled when you
installed it, thereby disabling the XP Security Center. This is by
design.

Make sure that your Norton is working correctly and you are protected
against viruses and with a firewall and if it is, then don't worry
about it.

Thanks for your help.I was given another way by which the MS Security Center
can be reactivated after Norton has disabled it.:Click START and click open
ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS.Next click SERVICES.In the SERVICES BOX which
opens, click the STANDARD BUTTON at the bottom and scroll down the programs
appearing there till you come to Microsoft Security Services. You will find it
is shown as STOPPED.Click on Microsoft Security Services twice to open
another box relating o this MS Sec.Services only. There you activate the
programe to automatic.
On checking up the security system was found activated while Norton was
active too.

The XP Security Center provides no security. It is an alerter only that
tells you if your antivirus, Automatic Updates, and firewall is active.
Running the XP Security Center instead of Norton's is fine, but you
don't need both. You definitely want to make sure you don't have the
Norton Firewall and the XP Firewall both running.
