Hi,
when I try to reach some resources on lan I've come across three cases.
1. Folder on remote pc and its contents, for example, is immediately presented
2. I'm asked for user name and pass
3. I'm asked for password, user name is alredy there in form
"MachineX\guest" which is the most problematic because user name can not be
changed in that login dialog

What does it depend on wheather I'm presented with dialog in case 2. or case
3. and what should I do in case 3. to get to resource?
thanx

The easy way is create the same username and password on both computer. Or
this search result may help.

windows faqsPrompt for the guest password Run a program as a service XP can
see win98 but win98 can't see XP Workstation doesn't start ...

Alex,

This will vary, depending upon authentication on the server (the target
resource). XP Home, XP Pro with Simple File Sharing, XP Pro with Advanced File
Sharing and only Guest, XP Pro with AFS and a non-Guest account - each will have
its peccadilloes. The client, too, will vary.

Typically, that means that Guest is not activated for sharing.
