When using a re-writable CD, must it be erased before re-recording?

If you are not doing a "Multi-Session" CD of a packet-writing (UDF) like
InCD/Drag to Disk/DLA, then YES!!!!!!!!

But can I right-over an existing file or must I erase the existing file first?

With UDF, you will be prompted, if you attempt to write a file with an
existing file name.

If the names are different then the first will not be overwritten. If you want to remove the one on
the disk it must be erased first.
