Every time I boot a pop-up appears "Some tasks did not start etc. etc." I
look in start up and they are all in there but don't know what to do to
correct this...some show they never ran although they did.

Turn computer on at the time the task is set to run. It couldn't run because the computer was turned off.

Thanks. It would help if the pop-up told you exactly what service failed to
start. As a result I've removed McAfee Update manager from the list and
will have to check manually, as that is the only thing that was set to check
automatically. The other item were set up as "on startup".

Scheduled Tasks maintains a log file named
C:\Windows\Schedlgu.txt. It might give you some useful
information. You can view the log from the Scheduled Tasks
window by clicking View Log on the Advanced menu.

KB308558 HOW TO: Troubleshoot Scheduled Tasks in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?Product=winxp&scid=kb;en-us;308558

By default the log file lists all past scheduled tasks under all
users until it reaches 32 kilobytes. At that point it
automatically starts overwriting old information so it can record
new information. To quickly find the most recent tasks: CTRL+F
to open the Find box, enter the following in the box labeled Find
what, and clicking Find Next: Most recent entry. The most
recent task that has run is the entry directly above this text.
